Working Java Version: v1.3; v1.4; Jave
2; Java 6
Problem
#1:
Java Version
I
am running windows xp on one, and a recent version of windows
98 on the other of my desktops. I could get into the war
room, but the room remained blank.
Solution
#1:
Open
an internet explorer browser window, left click tools, then
Internet Options, then Advanced. scroll down about halfway
through the list, and there is a heading entitled "Java
(Sun)" with a box labeled "Use Java 2 v1.4.2_04. MAKE
SURE THAT THIS BOX IS NOT CHECKED. (the default
is for it to be checked.) if it is checked, uncheck it and
restart your machine. this fixed both of my machines. i'm
thinking (i know nothing about Java) that this might be
the latest version of Java and it might be incompatible
with other versions, thus causing the machines to hang.

Problem
#2: Java
If It takes more than 1 minute to load the rooms, means
you might have a Java version that caused the problem. The
Java Applets do not work! Normally it takes 15 seconds to
load the WarRooms.
Java
Verion 1.30, version 1.4.0 and version 1.4.2_01 will work.
Newer version might not work. IF not work, try solution #1.
This
is the most frequently asked question. On the windows platform,
the Java support seems frequently to become unstable. The
result is that an applet that loaded ok before, no longer
loads. If rebooting and/or clearing your browser cache does
not solve the problem then read on: The easiest thing to
do is to update the microsoft Java virtual machine. This
can be done by visiting Microsoft
Java updates.
To
verify your current version, open a COMMAND PROMPT and type
JVIEW look for the version number at the top.. 5.00.3309
or later should work just fine.. if not, re-install it anyway,
from the above URL. For Macintosh, Netscape Java might work,
but is ancient, and the solution is we need to support the
Sun Java Plugin, unfortunately we dont have a beta tester
for this yet. Any volunteer?
Down
load Java
Java version 1.4.0 and version
1.4.2_01 will work. Newer version
might not work. If you have to intall newer version
Java, do NOT delet old version. (The following is to download
version 1.4.2)
Try
this first -----> http://banner-p.nmsu.edu:5050/APWXPROD/jre/Download.html
(for verstion 1.4.2_4)
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

Problem
#3: "Ping Timeout" , "Pinged Out"
a lot.
The
theory is that if you have a cable modem (as opposed to
DSL) you will get kicked out of the room, or “pinged out”
as it displays “ping timeout.” Some cable modem users, however,
report that they stay in the room all day without any issues.
My guess is that it depends on the ISP and the cable modem
itself. Mine sucks. I use OO as a provider with a Motorola
cable modem.
The
easiest fix is to get DSL. If you cannot (for example, it’s
not available in my area, here’s another (rather costly)
suggestion:
Lease
a server at a data center. A Windows 2003 server, fully
managed, with full Administrative rights, will cost you
around $90 per month. All you have to do is remote control
it (EASY). There are tons of service providers that do this.
All at about the same price. Not only do you get a perfectly
functioning room, but you also get a Windows 2003 WEB
server, with TONS of bandwidth (these data centers run on
multiple OC12 connections – that’s over 600 mbits per second,
multiple times) and they peer with practically every service
provider on the INTERNET. This is what I did. ZERO drop-outs.

Problem
#4: Can not "right click" the mouse.
Cut
and Paste are disabled on my machine whenever the DMD page
is opened. This is not just cut and paste from that page
- it even disables me from cutting and pasting within an
ordinary application, e.g. word or excel (even copying from
one cell to the adjascent cell stops working). As soon as
the DMD page is closed, cut and paste start working again.
My operating system is windows 2000 professional. No other
applications are running - just IE and (for example) Excel.
Surely it is not meant to do this ?
Solutions
#4:
DMD
bulletin is protected, whenever it is opened, you can not
do "cut, paste, copy, print or right click the mouse"
commands on your machine. Just close the DMD page and these
commands will work again.
